My response: The tabulator ImageCast Precinct (ICP-2) doesn't cost $70k, as if it had that cost, the contracted price would be $37.45 million for the 535 devices under contract. They are priced at about $7,000 single unit price. Also incorrectly stated, this is leased equipment, not purchased, therefore the vendor actually owns these devices, not Maricopa County. Regarding the devices, they are returned to the vendor, who can calibrate them, and return them to service.
The devices are also made to be taken apart to be serviced. They accumulate dirt, dust and paper debris while in operation, needing cleaning, recalibration to be put back into service.
The major issue regarding these devices is the wet ink that is transferred off the ballot paper, onto the top and bottom of the scanner surfaces. We have seen incidences, during election days, the only time these devices are used (other than testing), that ballots aren't able to be properly scanned, because of the build-up of ink residue.
Page 14, (image below), out of New York purchase document and pricing for the ICP-2 shows $6,800 price, plus Annual Firmware fee $228, plus Annual Hardware Warranty fee of $135. [ Link: https://online.ogs.ny.gov/purchase/spg/pdfdocs/2230023198p.pdf ].
