Nathan-melech, servant of the king
The Bible speaks of the reforms of King Josiah, one of the righteous kings of the Bible.
In that context, 2 Kings 23:11 says the king “removed the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entry of the house of the Lord, by the hall of Nathan-melech.”
This is the sole reference to Nathan-melech in Scripture. A biblical “extra.”
In 2018 several seal impressions (called bullae) were found in excavations near the royal quarter in Jerusalem.
One bulla is stamped as belonging to “Nathan-melech, servant of the king.”
Same name. Ssme location. Same time period.
It’s the same guy!
This is one of several seals that confirm the historicity of various figures, large and small, in the Bible.
